is an architecture and art practice based in Bergen, Norway.
The practice constructs environments that play with spatial and sensorial experience, often of a marginal and peripheral nature. These environments evolve through the curious use of materials, assemblies and methods, while extending across various scales, locations and types.
The work has been shown at the Hordaland Kunstsenter in Bergen Norway, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, Romania and at the Architekturzentrum Wien as part of the Vienna Biennale. Its collaboration with the artist James Turrell on the Hardanger Skyspace received 2nd place in the Betongtavlen 2017 award, the highest award for concrete architecture in Norway. The participatory public space project Pyramid Park won 1st place in the national competition for public space design in Romania.
a-works is led by the Canadian/Romanian architect Cristian Ştefănescu. Cristian is educated in Toronto, Stockholm and Bergen, Norway and serves as assistant professor at the Bergen School of Architecture.
